  i'm trying to understand which chords these are, in terms of piano.

  I am sitting here and using bar chords the full chord to play you really got me and it sounds just like the record,

  I tune to drop d and play it with power chords and it does not sound like the record.

  I submit that when the kinks recorded you really got me they used full bar chords.

  Then when they toured and lip synced on tv they used power chords.

  Because it is strenuous and challenging to play full bar chords and Dave was sloppy and lazy on tv.

  But the record sound is bar chords

  The van halen record sound of you really got me is power chords and it sounds like a power chord

  something is missing.

  When I play the piano.

  I dont use power chords either, I just use the bass.

  I just use one bass note and play chords with my right hand.

  I saw the kinks live many times

  and they could never play their hits and sound good like the record.

  They must have been playing power chords live.

  When I see someone playing a power chord the sound like the record is not there something is missing.

  That is why I never played them and figured those who used them did not know what they were doing or had

  a tin ear.

  I have encountered guitarist in the 2000's that I play with that cannot play chords.

  All they know is bar chords and they are always the weak link in the band.

  In fact the only reason they are in the band is because they are the band leader.

  I took guitar lessons in the 60's and learned many chords.

  I never learned a power chord or never saw one.

  I played in bands all my life and never saw a power chord until the 21st century.

  I just googled the kinks live playing you really got me and it appears Dave is playing bar chords.

  I did not know that back in the 60's.

  I was a big kinks fan and had all their music.

  The music books showed the chords as standard.

  I guess I was miss informed.

  I always played it with full bar chords.

  JB: I don't think Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, the Stones or the Beatles, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Satriani ever used them.

  You would be wrong.

  Oubliette you may be right. That is one thing about playing the guitar I learn something new all the time.

  Tell me on what songs did the above use power chords so I can check it out.

  How did it affect me.

  It made me stop and reflect and try to reconcile things.

  It forced me to ponder God or no God.

  And that has been a big question for a long time in my life.

  One answer is the old testament Jehovah is the New Testament Jesus.

  They are one and the same.

  We all owe God one death and we all have a resurection and a judgment.

  There are reasons God did what he did.

  One can google them.

  Ultimately we choose God or no God.

  And I am not even sure that choice affects things or not.

  You know deep down that things don't come from nothing. We came from God...

  Anyone else see a problem with this? If something cannot come from nothing, then who made god? Theists answer: no one. He's always existed. Ah! So something CAN come from nothing!

  If something can come from nothing then it is possible for our Universe to have come from nothing. No god is necessary.

  Shirley. I have always seen both sides.

  Even when I was a child back in the 50's.

  That is why I am intellectually torn on the subject.

  In our universe nothing comes from nothing.

  God is outside our universe.

  He is outside the box.

  So whether God had a begining or not outside the box is inconsequential.

  God exist outside time. Time only exist in our universe with man.

  I admire your understanding of theory.

  I have about 50 guitars and am building a recording studio.

  I have been playing since the beatles came out in the 60's.

  I have never used a power chord.

  I don't think they existed back in the 60's

  Or as you infer whether they exist at all.

  I always thought people that used them did not know how to play the guitar or were lazy.

  For the most part I never cared for bands that used power chords or how the guitar sounded in them.

  I don't think Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, the Stones or the Beatles, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Satriani

  ever used them.

  Van Halen did, and that is where I drew the line.

  They took the perfect Rock song You really got me

  and ruined it with power Chords.

  I don't think the Kinks used Power chords on the original.
